HP Officejet 8040: Getting Started
Use Neat for HP with your HP Printer
HP has partnered with Neat to expand the functionality of the full-featured Officejet all-in-one with a 1 TB backup hard drive as well as Neat’s industry-leading cloud based Smart Organization System.
When you scan documents to Neat’s cloud service, they are stored on the printer’s hard drive for backup purposes. This process should occur within a few minutes. Once documents have been scanned to Neat Cloud’s cloud service, you can access them from the following Neat resources—the Neat mobile app or via the cloud.
NOTE: Content is only accessible via the mobile app or via your web browser at cloud.neat.com. It is not accessible from the front panel of the printer.
Once you have set up the printer and registered your HP Connected account, you will have access to your HP Neat account.
FAQs
What is Neat for HP?
Neat for HP is a cloud-based Smart Organization System that lets you capture digital copies of items, unlock their important information, and unleash a more streamlined and efficient workflow. It transforms your digital and paper documents into organized, accessible information. Neat’s In Document Identification technology (ID2) transforms the words and numbers on your page into useful, usable data. That means information like vendor, date, tax, and total are processed from receipts, while names, titles, addresses, and phone numbers are lifted from business cards. Therefore, you no longer have to enter this data by hand.
When you scan content to Neat, it is stored and organized in Neat, which securely backs it up and allows you to access it from anywhere via the Neat mobile app or any web browser at cloud.neat.com.
How much will Neat for HP cost after I have purchased my HP printer?
Neat provides a limited package which includes 45 scans per month as a complimentary service with the purchase of your Neat-enabled HP printer. Premium packages can be found at Neat.com.
NOTE: The 45 scans included in the complimentary package are only a limit on the number of scans processed in the Neat cloud. There is no restriction on the number of items which may be printed from Neat to any available HP or Cloud-enabled printer. Once the scan allowance has been met, users will be allowed to continue to scan from HP devices and other sources to Neat and have the original images mirrored to the hard drive, but these items will not be processed. Users may print these original images from the Neat mobile apps without restriction.
What do I need to have in order to use Neat for HP?
In order to use the Neat capabilities available on your HP Officejet 8040, you must have an Internet connection and an HP Connected account (which will also serve as your Neat account).
In order to access your Neat content via the Neat mobile app, you must have a mobile device (iOS or Android) with an Internet connection.
How do I access the content I have scanned to Neat?
Your Neat service and associated account is provided by the Neat Company. There are two ways in which you can access your Neat account:
- The Neat mobile app
- A web browser
All of your files are primarily stored and accessed from Neat. The hard drive is for backup purposes only.
Note: Do not change the files inside the Neat folders. You can add personal files and folders to this hard drive for storage and backup purposes as long as they are outside the Neat folders.
By installing the desktop client, you can create a drive icon on your computer that will give you access to the printer hard drive. The HP OJ 8040 Hard Drive Utility will allow you to add files and folders on the hard drive but it will not allow you to modify any backup files in the Neat folders. To install the desktop client, go to the web address below and install the OJ 8040 Hard Drive Utility
You should have downloaded the Neat mobile app when you initially set up your printer. The Neat mobile currently supports Android and iOS operating systems.
You can download the mobile app for your device at the appropriate app store for your device.
